Welcome to the New Look Before Spending!

Hi! I'd like to welcome you to the new and (I think) improved Look Before Spending! We started out two and a half years ago as a coupon and deal site. We chased deals day in and day out for the good part of those 2.5 years. Over the past few months I've come to realize something: while I love helping people save money and make smart financial decisions, I don't particularly love chasing deals every single day. For 10 hours a day. Yes, that is what we did.

So plain and simple, we're not going to do it anymore. :)

So I would like to welcome you to the new Look Before Spending. A personal blog written by me (Zack) all about personal finance. But not the boring stuff like IRA's and big bank stuff. I'm going to share how I live my life, where I save money, and hopefully will motivate others to want to do the same. This will pretty much be a personal finance blog written for people who hate the topic of personal finance. Weird, huh?

If you're more into the deals, I totally understand. That is what this site was about for a long time. Lucky for you, I've made some good friends along the way and have a little list of amazing deal blogs that you can (and should) follow. Here they are in alphabetical order, because I can't pick a favorite!
I Heart the Mart - this guy spends more time in Walmart in one week that I'd like to in my entire life. But he does it to save you tons of money.
Mashup Mom - awesome grocery store matchups and tons of great deals posted every day.
MyLitter - if you shop at Kroger, you'll love her site. There are also tons of great recipe posts and cool DIY ideas too!
Southern Cali Saver - super thorough grocery and drugstore matchups for Southern California stores and beyond!
Totally Target - this site has Target nailed. I check it before every Target trip I make and you should too!

I truly hope you find every deal you could ever need at those sites. I also would love it if you stuck around here. The theme of the site will still be to save you money. I hope to inspire you to make better financial decisions while living your life to the fullest at the same time!

Over the next few days, I'll be putting the finishing touches on the site. I plan on adding a more complete top menu and a functional sidebar with some helpful resources. So yay!

Here's to 2.5 more years (and more after that) of fun!

  1. Love it! Can’t wait to see more!

  2. Aunt Julie says:

Love the new site! Love the picture with the Barbie dolls! And, especially love the fact that you kept the logo! And, of course, love you guys!

  3. Great concept. Was the placement of your cat intentional or did s/he photo bomb your picture? Ha
