We were asked to do a review for a self-filtering stainless steel water bottle from DisasterSurvivalSkills.com. We were in no-way paid for this and all opinions are our own. Wayne at DisasterSurvivalSkills was nice enough to provide us with a bottle to review as well as one to give away to you all! :D
First, here's some info from the website (DisasterSurvivalSkills.com):
- Contains an Ionic-Adsorption Micro-Filtration System that becomes your portable and mobile water filtration plant.
- Purifies up to 100 gallons of contaminated water.
- Worlds first and only stainless steel filter water bottle.
- Filters everything except salt water.
- BPA-free, lead free and non-leaching.
Now, what we think:
The first thing we noticed is that the bottle is very aesthetically pleasing. It has a sleek look and a good shape to it. We got a dark blue one and a soft pink one. Of course, we fought over which one to keep and somehow I won, so we're keeping the blue one. :)
Anyway, is it just looks? Nope, not at all. After a quick wash, we were ready to try this out! We filled it up with regular sink water (we also filled up a regular glass with the same water for taste testing). There's no waiting for the water to filter like those pitcher systems. The water filters through from the suction you create when drawing the water up through the bottle. Think of it as a straw instead of a sports bottle type.
The one tricky thing was that we were tempted to tip the bottle and try to drink that way, but that does not work. Water has to be in the bottom of the bottle for it work.
This makes the bottle a very good choice for driving, since you don't have to tip your head to drink like you would with regular bottled water. That is probably our favorite part!
Anyway, a side by side taste test ensued. We definitely noticed the "nasty" taste of our tap water was not there. The bottle did a nice job of getting rid of that.
We would have to wait 8 months to do a review of how long the bottle filtered, but so far, everything they say about this bottle has been true.
