Office Max is the BEST place to get free office supplies!
They have a rewards program called Max Perks (sign up here) where you get a certain percentage of your purchase back in the form of spendable rewards. As of today (I’d call 1-866-MaxPerks to confirm) you CAN use your rewards to purchase gift cards in the store!
There are 2 ways to sign up: as a business or as a teacher (these do NOT have to be official titles). The main difference between them is that the teacher’s account issues the rewards quarterly (way too slow) but gives you a $10 reward for every $75 on qualifying purchase, while the business account issues the rewards monthly but only issues a $25 bonus on $500 in qualifying purchases. The business account is, in my opinion, the way to go. Office Max has “free after MaxPerks Rewards” deals quite often, and if you are sitting there waiting for your rewards to show up in your teacher’s account, you could be missing some great deals!
The single most important detail about the Office Max rewards is that THEY DO ROLL OVER! Which means, if you have $75 in rewards in your account and make a $50 purchase on items that offer 100% back, you can use your rewards and you will get more rewards back!
So, what’s the best way to use Office Max?
Here’s what I did: About 6 months ago, I made an initial “investment” of around $50. I got a few boxes of pens, a couple of binders and some labels. Then, about once a month, I will (using my rewards) take advantage of more “free after MaxPerks Rewards” deals they have going and get more stuff while keeping my rewards rolling. On one order, I spend about $20 more bucks in actual money, so now I am rolling about $70 in rewards.
To make the Office Max deals even sweeter, you can go through Shop at Home and get 4% cash back on your purchase! You could also use Ebates but they don’t offer as much cash back.

I saw a email were you said that the Kindle could be purchased at Officemax for $159.99 after the 20% BROWN BAG promotion.
That is incorrect. As per Officemax website read:Not valid on purchases of printers, computers, monitors, televisions, digital cameras, camcorders, MP3 players, digital photo frames, GPS systems and accessories, eReaders, video game consoles, projectors and accessories, fax machines, copiers, scanners, HP products and clearance items.
thanks and please correct this misinformationThe printout available on the website has been confirmed by many people to include the tablet. Also, if you refer to this post here, you can see that the physical brown bag that we talked about in the post specifically says that the sale includes “tablets”. So we went ahead and corrected the “misinformation”. (you’ll see it lined out) :)
Do the rewards still roll? I know the program changed in 2011. I’m new to the program and was told that I couldn’t use my Max Perks to buy items and receive Max Perks. I was just wondering if that did indeed still work? Thanks!
We were able to roll in Jan of this year. We’ll look into it and try to get you a straight answer.
It appears that they can still roll. We were unable to find anything saying that people could not roll them. We used all of ours up recently on a laptop, so the last time we rolled them was January, but it worked fine!
